Our Responsibility

To the Environment.

Oakwrights Bath take environmental issues seriously

We are committed to reducing our environmental impact.

Whilst the construction industry as a whole doesn’t have a great reputation for being eco-friendly, we constantly strive to adopt the most sustainable processes possible.  Some examples of the steps we take include:

Ethically sourced timber

We source our timber from suppliers who are committed to dealing only in timber from certified, legal and renewable sources. We achieve this by purchasing from suppliers who support Forestry Certification schemes such as PEFC and FSC. These forestry certifications provide assurance that the timber has been sourced from sustainable and responsibly managed forests.

We produce our bespoke products from a range of timber including Oak, Accoya, Sapele, Ash, Beech, Douglas Fir, Tulipwood and many more.

We work very closely with all our suppliers, but a recent meeting with our contacts at Accsys (the producer of Accoya) reminded us of how durable and versatile Accoya is. Performance encapsulates all the properties of Accoya which make it such a great choice for external applications, no matter the environment. It competes not just with hardwoods for endurance, but also other materials such as PVC and aluminium. Designers and manufacturers love working with Accoya – its flexibility in natural and coated finishes makes Accoya ideal for a variety of applications.

Sustainability is at the heart of Accoya – its credentials are world-beating.  From source, to production and through to end of life, sustainability shines through. Click on this link for more information and to take you to their website www.accsysplc.com.

Environmentally friendly paints, oils & treatments

We only use water-based paints, oils and timber treatments which are less harmful to the environment and allow the timber to flex and breathe naturally.

Sustainable energy

We have installed an extensive array of solar panels on the roof of our workshop which powers our machines, lighting etc.  Solar energy is one of the cleanest sources of energy on the planet as it does not produce any pollutants.

We have a wood burner in our workshop which enables us to burn our wood/paper/cardboard waste and convert it into heat energy in the cold winter months.  This reduces both our electricity consumption and the amount of waste we dispose.

Supporting the Woodland Trust

We make an annual donation to the Woodland Trust, the UK’s largest woodland conservation charity. The Woodland Trust do fantastic work planting trees, protecting woods and campaigning to restore ancient woodland for the benefit of wildlife and people.
